Dr. N.V. Ravi Kumar has been selected for the “IEI Young Engineers Award” in Metallurgical and Materials Engineering discipline for the year 2010. The award will be presented at the Inaugural Session of the Twenty-third National Convention of Metallurgical and Materials Engineers to be held at the premises of West Bengal State Centre, The Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata on January 15, 2010.
The IITM - Summer Fellowship Programme for two months duration with fixed stipend of Rs.6,500/- is designed to enhance awareness and interest in high quality academic research among young Engineering, Management, Sciences and Humanities students through a goal oriented summer mini-project to be undertaken in different departments of this Institute.
Dr. N.V. Ravi Kumar has been selected for the Dr. R.L. Thakur Memorial Award 2008 by the Indian Ceramic Society, Kolkata as a recognition of his valuable contribution to the field of Materials Engineering. The award was presented during the inaugural function of the society's 72nd annual session to be held at B.M. Birla Science and Technology Centre, Jaipur. The award consists of a silver plaque of honour and citation.
Prof. B.S. Murty has been elected as fellow of the National Academy of Science during the year 2008.
Prof. D.R.G. Achar has been elected as Honorary Fellow of the Indian Welding Society. The award will be presented during the International Welding Symposium IWS2k8 to be held at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi on February 13, 2008.
Prof. Atul H. Chokshi, B.Tech (MT) 1980 and currently Professor, Department of Materials Engineering, IISc Bangalore has been named Distinguished Alumnus of IIT Madras on January 26, 2008.
A project titled Establishment of a Nano Functional Materials Techonology Centre (NFMTC) at Indian Institute of Technology Madras has been sanctioned by DST with a total funding of Rs. 23.61 Crores. The Principal Coordinators are Dr. S.S. Bhattacharya (Department of MME), Prof. S. Rama Prabhu (Department of Physics) and Prof. M.S. Ramachandra Rao (Department of Physics). Co-ordinators from our Department are Dr. S.S. Bhattacharya - Principal Coordinator & Dr. T.S. Sampath Kumar - Co-Investigator (from MME).
Prof. B.S. Murty is elected as a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering.
Prof. B.S. Murty won the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in engineering sciences for the year 2007.
